Jianrong Zhang is a Master of Public Health Candidate in George Warren Brown School, as well as a Graduate Policy Scholar in Clark-Fox Policy Institute, at Washington University in St. Louis. He is one of collaborators in the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) Study. Jianrong also plays different editorial roles in international academic journals.
Dr. Zhang accomplished Medicine Degree (2008-2016) and clinical training (2012, 2014-2016) at Guangzhou Medical University with its First Affiliated Hospital (China Rank #1 Hospital on Respiratory Diseases for recent 9 years consecutively). The specialization is thoracic surgery. He also received research training (2013-2016) at Guangzhou Institute of Respiratory Disease (National Clinical Research Center & State Key Laboratory of Respiratory Disease of China). In 2018, he earned further academic training at Duke University School of Medicine as a Visiting Scholar.
His main research interest is to apply evidence-based methodologies in transdisciplinary areas, including design of oncological clinical trials, preventive, diagnostic & therapeutic strategies for lung cancer, global burden of disease (e.g., cancer, HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis), social determinants of health, health disparities, unhealthy behavior (e.g., smoking, alcohol use), and related policies. From 2014 to present, Dr. Zhang has 24 publications in international peer-review journals (e.g., J Epidemiol Community Health, BMJ Open), and also presented his research in three international conferences (e.g., World CHEST Congress).
During his career, Jianrong always aims to maximize healthcare synergies between scientific & clinical practice, governmental administration and social networks, for the improvement of public health.
