Jan Beyer-Westendorf

Research interests: intensive care medicine, vascular medicine, and haemostaseology. His research interests mainly focus on venous thromboembolism, atrial fibrillation, anticoagulant therapies and bleeding management

Jan Beyer-Westendorf is Head of the Thrombosis Research Unit at the Department of Medicine I, Division of Hematology at the University Hospital Carl Gustav Carus Dresden, Germany and Assistant Professor for Internal Medicine at the Technical University of Dresden. Since 2016, he also serves as a Senior Lecturer in Thrombosis & Haemostasis at King’s College London, UK.

After completing his residency in internal medicine at the University Hospital Carl Gustav Carus Dresden in 2005, Dr Beyer-Westendorf went on to specialise in intensive care medicine, vascular medicine, and haemostaseology. His research interests mainly focus on venous thromboembolism, atrial fibrillation, anticoagulant therapies and bleeding management.

Dr Beyer-Westendorf has served on the steering committee of numerous clinical trials in cardiovascular medicine, and has participated as Principal Investigator in phase III and phase IV trials evaluating the non-vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulants. Since 2011 he has run a regional prospective registry looking at the efficacy, safety and management aspects of oral anticoagulants in daily practice, with currently over 4000 patients enrolled.

Dr Beyer-Westendorf has authored or co-authored more than 140 well-received publications in peer-reviewed international journals, as well as many book chapters. He is a reviewer for several international journals, including the, the British Medical Journal, Blood, the European Heart Journal, Journal of the American College of Cardiology, Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis (Editorial Board Member), Thrombosis and Haemostasis, and Thrombosis Research.

Jan Beyer-Westendorf is married and proud father of three exhilarant kids.
