Domenico Alvaro, MD

Prof. Domenico Alvaro is a Full Professor of Gastroenterology at the University “Sapienza”, Rome, Italy; Chief of Gastroenterology Division, Dept. Medico-Surgical Sciences and Biotechnologies. Prof. Alvaro is involved since 1980 in research concerning the pathophysiology of bile secretion and in the last 15 years on the mechanisms regulating the proliferation and death of cholangiocytes in different pathologies including Polycystic Liver, Primary Liver Cirrhosis and Cholangiocarcinoma. In the last 5 years, Prof. Alvaro was involved in research concerning resident progenitor/stem cells in the liver.

He is the author of N. 165 peer review publications in the main scientific journals including: J. Clin. Investig.; Gastroenterology; Ann. Internal Medicine; Hepatology, PNAS, Nature Genetics; and member of the Editorial Board of Hepatology, Digestive and Liver Diseases. Legal Responsible of Digestive and Liver Diseases.
