Simulation modeling for clinical trials evaluating radiotherapy omission in low-risk early breast cancer

Adjuvant whole breast radiation therapy (WBI) is regarded as a standard approach for early-stage breast cancer (EBC) patients after breast conservation surgery (BCS) (1,2). It is able to halve the 10–year rate of any breast cancer recurrence (absolute reduction: 15.7%) and to reduce by about 1/6^th the 15-year breast cancer-related mortality (absolute reduction: 3.8%) (3).
