Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a behaviorally defined neurodevelopmental disorder that now affects almost 2% of children in the United States (US). Although ASD is a very heterogeneous disorder with many associated psychiatric and medical co-morbidities (1), specific core symptoms define its diagnosis.
