Arterial cardiovascular events and mortality following venous thromboembolism

Kasper Adelborg, Jens Sundbøll, Henrik Toft Sørensen

Abstract

Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is the third most common cardiovascular condition, with an annual incidence of 10-20 cases per 10,000 inhabitants. It is a major health problem associated with increased mortality and substantial evidence suggests that patients with VTE are at higher risk of arterial cardiovascular events than the general population.
