Preface
Preface on Capsule Endoscopy

Preface

As we approach the end of the second decade after its introduction into clinical practice, capsule endoscopy has become a first line small bowel investigative tool, it is being used to image other areas of the gastrointestinal tract and studies of how to add further diagnostic, biopsy and therapeutic tools are underway. This reflects the desire of patients and their doctors to make investigation as comfortable, safe and effective as possible.

In this issue devoted to small bowel capsule endoscopy, we reflect on how far we have come since the first models were introduced and what future practice might look like. Contributions also include reviews of small bowel bleeding and coeliac disease, two of the commonest indications for capsule endoscopy, articles on capsule retention and a perspective of one nation's experience in the field.
